Ingrid's love of drawing and her awareness of the importance of it is fundamental to her practice and learning to paint in watercolour was a new but exciting challenge.Growing up in the Shetland Islands, Ingrid has been influenced by the unique quality of light there and colour has always played an important part in her work both with tapestry weaving and latterly watercolour painting. Her inspiration for botanical subject matter oiginates with her love of gardening and the tough plants which she grew up with which thrive in fairly harsh conditions. Ingrid has recently begun weaving again and is looking forward to developing her weaving in tandem with painting and her love of botanical subject matter.

Ingrid Arthur was born in 1960 in the Shetland Isles. Aged 16 she left for Edinburgh College of Art where she studied in the Tapestry Department and graduated in 1981 with a First Class BA Hons degree, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in 1982. More recently in 2021 she gained a Diploma in Botanical Illustration with Distinction from the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh. She has worked both independently and to commission, spent time teaching tapestry, worked in the family business, raised three children and curated exhibitions in both Edinburgh and Shetland. Most notably her work features in the public collections of Lerwick Town Hall and Shetland Museum and Archives as well as private collections in both the U.K. and U.S.A. Ingrid currently lives and works in Edinburgh and Fife.
