This artwork depicts Strobilanthes cusia. On a tranquil night, its dried capsules suddenly burst open, releasing a sound that seems to tell a tale of the plant's history with this soil. Once widely cultivated in Taiwan, it was used to extract blue dye from its stems and leaves, which was then processed into indigo for export. Today, its cultivation is a shadow of its former scale, and it has gradually faded from daily life. Thus, I chose to render the background stems and leaves as monochrome sketches, resembling a past silenced by time. In contrast, the foreground is infused with color and vitality. It exudes a vigorous life force, continuing its story and awaiting the moment when it may once again be heard.
