Watercolour on Paper

h: 27 w: 23 d: 1 (cms).

We planted several Stargazer Lilies in our front flowerbed. Their abundant blooms and fragrance are enjoyed throughout the mid to late summer season! This painting was completed on Arches HP paper using multiple layers of transparent watercolours. Quinacridone pigments boldly brought the rich colours to life, from rosy pinks and reds to deep magentas! I really enjoyed depicting the various textures I observed.

Graphite on Bristol Vellum

h: 34 w: 26 d: 1 (cms).

This graphite piece is based on a pot of three varieties of basil which I grew, Amazel, Dark Opal & Genovese basil. I loved the various textures and the range of values that this mix offered visually. Not only were each of these basils flavourful when used in cooking, they also smelt delightful in my studio! This piece was completed on Strathmore Bristol vellum using Caran D’Ache grafwoods (4H to 8B) and Blackwing pencils. My drawing & graphite work, prior to becoming involved in botanical art, relied solely on the typical HB pencil used in school.
