This artwork presents the complete life cycle of Metaplexis japonica, meticulously documenting its botanical transition from bud to seed. The primary composition illustrates the sequential stages of flowering—from pre-bloom and full anthesis to the post-floral phase—accurately depicting the plant's characteristic inflorescence. The work further explores the development of the follicle (fruit) from the spent flower, alongside the distinctively opposite (decussate) leaf arrangement. To emphasize its growth habit, I have captured the vine's natural fluidity through elegant, winding curves. A significant focus was placed on the mature, dehiscent fruit, where I detailed the remarkably organized and rhythmic arrangement of the seeds, highlighting the structural beauty and biological precision of the species.

This botanical illustration captures the complete life cycle of Magnolia × soulangiana, commonly known as the Saucer Magnolia, within a single composition. The artwork meticulously documents the plant’s transformation, starting from the velvet-textured dormant buds of early spring to the full, elegant bloom, and concluding with the maturation of the fruiting aggregate in autumn. To emphasize botanical accuracy, a detailed floral dissection is integrated into the piece. This section highlights the intricate morphology of the pistils and stamens, providing a clear view of the reproductive structures that are often hidden within the tepals. The artist has focused on the striking contrast between the deep purplish-pink exterior and the pure white interior of the petals, a defining characteristic of this hybrid. By illustrating the transition from flower to the distinctive knobby fruit containing bright red seeds, the work celebrates the biological complexity and the enduring vitality of
