The Pogostemon deccanensis, native to India, is a common wildflower in the Western Ghats of India. This artwork depicts a clump of these flowers growing in the thin layer of topsoil on the lateritic Chalkewadi Plateau in the Western Ghats. The Plateau, a beautiful place to see the wildflowers of this region, faces stress from tourist activity and the windmill farms that have been set up here.

The desiccated fruit of this plant is as useful as the unripe ones. Peel off the dried outer layer, and you have a homemade loofa! This drawing was quite challenging because of the little markings all over the dried skin as well as the fibrous texture inside. Challenging, yet fun.
