I was drawn to this majestic, palm-like cycad—one of the oldest living plant lineages on Earth. Endemic to South Africa and classified as Vulnerable, it embodies both strength and fragility. Its ancient presence and powerful structure deeply captivated me. Knowing its status on the Red Data List gave me a profound sense of urgency to preserve its image through art. In this work, I sought to capture the striking form of its leaves, their subtle shifts in colour, and the fallen, withered ones beneath. The intricate textures of the trunk tell the enduring story of this remarkable plant.
